Our rich history goes back to Pastor Theodore Brueckner, who at the time was pastor of Our
Savior's in San Bernardino. Those living in Banning asked him to come here and do some cottage worship/studies. He also wrote
our first Constitution. In the fall of 1947 an initial meeting was held regarding organizing as a congregation. The official
organization was March 28, 1948. Pastor Robert Rismiller was called to be our first pastor. The first building was in the
4500 block of West Ramsey on 11 acres, intended to serve Banning and Beaumont with anticipated growth in both cities. The
parish was formed with Faith Lutheran in Yucaipa. When Pastor Rismiller accepted a call elsewhere, Rev. Dr. Robert Kerstetter,
formerly a fund raiser for the Lutheran Church, was called. He served until Pastor Aaron Plueger was installed in the summer
of 1953, upon completing seminary. His call was for 1/4 time in Banning and 3/4 time in Yucaipa. After some consideration
was discussed to close the Banning church, the following year the churches divided and Pastor Plueger was called to American
Lutheran Church (it's name back then) fulltime to make a go of it. Beaumont was the location of choice, but since 3/4 of the
people lived in Banning, a new location was sought with the hope that eventually the Banning Church could begin a new mission
in Beaumont. The original building was actually moved to the new site, which is now our east fellowship hall, called the ‘Fireside
Room’. This new location spawned fast growth and within two years the new building was under construction. It was dedicated
on May 8, 1960. The name was changed to ‘Our Savior’s Lutheran Church’. Pastor Plueger, after 81/2 years,
went on to start a new congregation in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was followed here by Pastor Lee Roy Brandes who served
for 91/2 years during which time the campus added classrooms, office space, chimes and a Prayer Garden. Pastor Robert Yeomans
was installed August 1971 during which time the organ was purchased and the mortgage paid off. He was followed by Pastor Wally
Rasmussen in January 1989 who served until May 1995. Pastor Paul Scheitlin was called on July 30, 1995 and started his current
ministry here on September 1, 1995.
"In 1997 we purchased the land on Ramsey Street behind the church and paid off the
loan in three short years. Our goal is to have a "Community Resource Center" with a head start/early childhood education unit
on it, along with a larger fellowship hall. In March 1998 we celebrated our 50th anninversary with a special worship with
former pastors and Bishop Murray Finck and Dr. Tim Lull from Berkerly Seminary as our guest, followed by a celebration at
Calimesa Country Club. In December 2003, Carol's Kitchen began serving meals on Fridays as part of a community effort Monday-Friday
to feed the hungry. In August 2004 we remodeled the sanctuary with new painting, carpeting, pew cushions and kneelers. In
April 2005 we put on new shingles. We continue to work on the Community Resource Center and anticipate things happening in
the near future, with our partnership with Renu Hope Foundation. Things continue to happen in this very active congregation
as we seek to serve the community and share the love of God!"
